The adventure begins with a breathtaking drive from Manali to Shoja, passing through lush green valleys and winding mountain roads. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into a serene paradise with dense forests and crisp mountain air. Shoja, a hidden gem in the Himalayas, offers peace and tranquility, making it the perfect spot to relax and prepare for the rugged terrains ahead. You can explore the nearby Jalori Pass or take a short hike to a beautiful waterfall before settling in for the night.
Leaving Shoja, the journey continues towards Sangla, passing through the stunning landscapes of Kinnaur Valley. This region is known for its lush apple orchards, picturesque wooden houses, and breathtaking views of the Baspa River. The road meanders through deep gorges and towering cliffs, offering thrilling vistas at every turn. Upon reaching Sangla, you can explore the charming village, visit the historic Kamru Fort, and immerse yourself in the rich culture of Kinnaur before resting for the night.
The day starts with a drive to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. This remote hamlet, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush green meadows, is one of the most beautiful places in the region. After soaking in the beauty of Chitkul, the journey continues towards Nako, a high-altitude village famous for its serene lake and traditional Tibetan-style houses. As you reach Nako, the barren yet mesmerizing landscapes of Spiti Valley start unfolding, offering a glimpse of the adventure that lies ahead.
The fourth day is dedicated to exploring Spiti’s ancient monasteries and cultural heritage. The first stop is Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest monasteries in the Himalayas, known for its ancient murals and sculptures. Continuing the journey, you arrive at Dhankar, a village dramatically perched on a cliff overlooking the Spiti River. Here, you visit the stunning Dhankar Monastery and take a short trek to Dhankar Lake, where the peaceful surroundings and reflections of the mountains create a magical experience. The day ends with an overnight stay in Dhankar, surrounded by history and spirituality.
The road leads to Kaza, the headquarters of Spiti Valley, but not before exploring some of the most iconic places in the region. First, you visit Key Monastery, an architectural marvel perched on a hilltop, offering spectacular views of the valley. Next is Kibber, one of the highest motorable villages in the world, where you can experience the simple yet unique lifestyle of Spiti’s high-altitude dwellers. The drive continues to the remote villages of Gette and Tashigang, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and rugged terrain. After a day of exploration, you return to Kaza to relax and soak in the Spitian charm.
A thrilling day awaits as you explore some of the highest villages in the world. First, you visit Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office, where you can send a postcard from the top of the world. Then, you reach Komik, the highest motorable village in Asia, offering panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks. Finally, Langza, known for its giant Buddha statue and prehistoric marine fossils, provides a glimpse into Spiti’s ancient past. The day is filled with incredible sights and cultural experiences before heading back to Kaza for the night.
The adventure continues with a drive through Losar, the last village in Spiti before crossing the high-altitude Kunzum Pass. As you ascend, the views become more dramatic, with snow-clad peaks and rugged mountain terrain. Crossing Kunzum Pass, you descend towards the enchanting Chandratal Lake, also known as the "Moon Lake." This crescent-shaped lake, surrounded by towering peaks, offers one of the most surreal landscapes in the Himalayas. The evening is spent camping by the lake under a sky filled with countless stars, creating an unforgettable experience.
On the final day, you bid farewell to Chandratal and begin the return journey. Passing through Batal, the rugged and challenging roads keep the adventure alive. The journey continues through the iconic Atal Tunnel, the longest high-altitude tunnel in the world, making the descent to Manali faster and smoother. Before reaching Manali, short stops at Gulaba and Kothi offer a final chance to enjoy the lush green landscapes and waterfalls, a stark contrast to Spiti’s barren beauty. As you arrive in Manali, the trip comes to an end, leaving you with memories of an epic journey through one of the most remote and stunning regions of the Himalayas.
