The adventure kicks off with a scenic drive from Delhi to Manali, covering a journey of winding roads, lush green valleys, and the first glimpses of the mighty Himalayas. As you ascend towards the popular hill town, the fresh mountain air and breathtaking landscapes set the mood for the journey ahead. Upon reaching Manali, you can take a stroll through Mall Road, visit the Hidimba Temple, or simply relax and acclimatize before the rugged adventure into Spiti Valley begins.
Leaving Manali behind, the road takes you towards Shoja, a hidden gem nestled in the serene hills of Himachal. The drive is a treat for nature lovers, with dense deodar forests, charming villages, and refreshing mountain air. Shoja, known for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning landscapes, offers a perfect retreat from the bustling cities. Here, you can take a short hike to waterfalls, enjoy the beauty of the Jalori Pass, or simply unwind in the tranquil surroundings before settling in for the night.
Continuing the journey, the road winds through the breathtaking Kinnaur Valley towards Sangla. This stretch offers magnificent views of snow-capped peaks, apple orchards, and the gushing Baspa River. Sangla, a picturesque valley town, is known for its lush greenery and charming wooden houses. The day is spent exploring the surrounding beauty, visiting Kamru Fort, and immersing in the rich Kinnauri culture. The night is spent in this peaceful valley, preparing for the next day's adventure.
The day begins with a drive to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. With its stunning landscapes, wooden houses, and flowing Baspa River, Chitkul is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers. After soaking in its beauty, the journey continues towards Nako, crossing dramatic mountain roads and deep valleys. Nako, a high-altitude village, is known for its serene lake and traditional Buddhist culture. The evening is spent exploring the village and enjoying the peaceful ambiance before resting for the night.
A day of cultural exploration begins with a visit to Tabo, home to the renowned Tabo Monastery, which is over 1,000 years old and filled with ancient murals and sculptures. After absorbing the spiritual vibes, the journey continues to Dhankar, a village perched dramatically on a cliffside. Dhankar Monastery, an architectural marvel, offers breathtaking views of the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. A short trek leads to the pristine Dhankar Lake, where the reflection of the surrounding peaks in the clear waters creates a mesmerizing sight. The night is spent in Dhankar, surrounded by ancient heritage and mountain serenity.
The journey moves towards Kaza, the heart of Spiti Valley, but not before exploring some of the region’s most iconic spots. The day includes visits to Key Monastery, the largest and most famous monastery in Spiti, offering stunning valley views and a spiritual experience. Kibber, one of the highest motorable villages in the world, follows next, providing insights into the traditional lifestyle of Spiti’s high-altitude communities. The drive further leads to Gette and Tashigang, both remote villages with unparalleled landscapes. The day ends in Kaza, where you can explore local markets and soak in the charm of Spiti’s capital.
This day is dedicated to exploring Spiti’s famous high-altitude villages. Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office, offers a unique experience where you can send postcards from the top of the world. Komik, the highest motorable village in Asia, captivates with its remote setting and stunning monastery. Langza, known for its giant Buddha statue and fossils scattered across the land, transports you back to an ancient world. The experience of visiting these villages, each with its own charm and breathtaking views, makes this a day to remember before heading back to Kaza for the night.
The journey towards Chandratal begins with a drive through Losar, the last village in Spiti before entering the high-altitude terrain of Kunzum Pass. Crossing the pass, you are treated to a mesmerizing view of snow-covered peaks and glaciers. As you descend, the sight of Chandratal Lake unfolds – a magical, crescent-shaped lake with crystal-clear waters reflecting the mighty mountains. The evening is spent camping near the lake, under a star-studded sky, making it one of the most surreal experiences of the trip.
Leaving behind the stunning Chandratal, the return journey takes you through Batal, a rugged and remote region offering stark yet beautiful landscapes. The road continues towards the famous Atal Tunnel, the longest high-altitude tunnel in the world, making the journey back to Manali faster and more comfortable. Before reaching Manali, stops at Gulaba and Kothi provide an opportunity to witness lush green valleys and gushing waterfalls, a stark contrast to the barren beauty of Spiti. The evening in Manali offers a chance to relax, shop, or enjoy a well-earned meal before concluding the trip.
The final day of the trip marks the journey back to Delhi, bringing an end to an unforgettable adventure through Spiti Valley. As the landscapes shift from towering mountains to rolling plains, the memories of rugged roads, high passes, serene monasteries, and breathtaking lakes stay with you. This 10-day journey through one of the most remote and stunning regions of India offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty, making it an experience to cherish forever.
